The Farm
Our History
Conscious Valley is based in Ohariu Valley, where our family has been farming sheep and cattle for 6 generations. We are proud producers of some of the world’s highest quality and most ethically raised red meat.

Hamish was born and raised in Wellington and spent 10 years advising farmers how to grow crops in Hawkes Bay and Australia. He's now back running the farm and bringing meat to the market with the support from his partner Caroline

Our Farm
Huiawa is 420 hectares of steep to rolling hill country farm with pockets of native trees and scrub such as Manuka, Karaka, Tauhinu and Kanuka. All of our livestock are free range, grass fed and are never fed hormones or antibiotics.
Our Romney x Texel ewes are highly maternal mothers with high meat yielding lambs. Our cattle are traditional Angus and Shorthorns, we have introduced Speckled Park genetics into our herd to improve the marbling potential of our beef.

Our hill country pastures consist of diverse species of grasses, legumes and broadleaf herbs and are grazed under rotational grazing. This encourages diversity in both the flora and fauna species that call Huiawa home. We also have specialised forage crops to feed our animals when the farms natural feed supply is reduced, futureproofing the farm.

We believe in ethical farming, which aims to balance the production of red meat with the ecological sustainability of the land, animal welfare and our environmental impact.

Our Future
As custodians of this precious resource, we intend on leaving this farm in better condition than when we started. This is why we intend on retiring unproductive areas and developing our farm to be carbon neutral/positive. This is a slow process but one we are committed to, and we invite you to be a part of that journey.
